When Jesus said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do”. Could it be that Jesus was not only referring to the ones who were crucifying him? Was he also asking God to forgive us? Jesus was dying for our sins so that we can live and be forgiven for doing things against the will and laws of the Father. God said, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”. There are things we do not know, have not learned, or refuse to learn. Jesus knew that we would be ignorant of our sins and the consequences for our sins. It is because of Jesus that we are forgiven when we ask God to forgive us. Jesus has already put in the request on our behalf and died for us. For we know not what we do.
